Fall Essentials Every College Student Should Have

Fall is one of my favorite times of the year when it comes to college. Not only do the leaves change, but I get to wear all my comfy fall sweaters and attend my favorite events of the year. From pumpkin patches to sunflower fields, these essentials will get you through my favorite time of the year while adding a bit of style to your wardrobe.

Umbrella

It sure does rain a lot during the fall, at least in my experience. In fall weather, you do not want to be caught without an umbrella. If you don’t have room for a big umbrella, consider a travel-size option instead to make things a bit more compact! It will fit much easier in your backpack and you won’t have to worry about it taking up a lot of room for your laptop and books.

Rain Jacket

If you don’t have an umbrella, a rain jacket can be a great alternative. Even if you do have an umbrella, a rain jacket can be a great bonus! I’m someone who absolutely loves when it rains, but I hate being out in it. I opt for a rain jacket just because I find that I stay a little drier, especially with how windy the fall Missouri weather can be.

Rain Boots

The puddles on some college campuses are no joke. I see many different types of rain boots as I walk around campus, but the most popular style (that a lot of time carries into the winter) are tall rain boots! If you find them in fun colors, that adds a little brightness to an otherwise dull and dreary day. It keeps your spirits high and keeps you walking across campus dry and stylish!

Fall-themed mug

A mug in any capacity can be a great thing to have. When temperatures start dropping, you might find yourself gravitating towards hot beverages like tea, coffee, and hot chocolate. This is the perfect mug to keep your go-to in and stay festive for the fall season!

Tumbler

A tumbler is essential for the fall and winter as a college student. Coffees can get expensive and eat up a declining balance really quick. With a tumbler, you can make your favorites at home and take them with you to campus! There’s even an added bonus — you won’t have to wake up earlier in order to get a coffee from the cafe on campus!

Blanket Scarf

This is one of my favorite things about the fall time! Blanket scarves are the most underrated item when it comes to fall and winter. They spice up an outfit so easily and are SO WARM. The name really fits when they call it a blanket scarf. They’re just as cozy as a blanket, but is socially acceptable to wear around campus all day. Being cozy should be one of your main priorities as the air gets cooler and you’ll definitely achieve that with this style of scarf!

Flannel

This is probably one of the most sought after items when it comes to the weather getting cooler (and is probably on nearly everyone’s list of fall essentials). Flannels are a great way to stay warm and cozy as the temperatures begin to drop and they turn an everyday t-shirt and jeans much more stylish. Flannels are an easy go-to part of your wardrobe because the color options are practically endless!

Fleece Jacket

Are you constantly cold? A fleece jacket can be great essential for the fall time. This may be a little easier for the fall season on college campuses as well. It can easily roll up and be stowed away in your backpack and will be easier to throw on than a traditional sweatshirt. A fleece jacket like this one will allow a little more warmth than a flannel but will still help you stay nice and cozy.

Sweater Boot Cuffs

Want the look of boot socks without committing to a long sock? These sweater boot cuffs are a great alternative! You won’t have to worry about tucking your jeans in or figuring out how to leave your jeans out. Instead, just layer these over the top of your pants and achieve the look you’re wanting! For someone like me who is always hot, these can help take your outfit to the next level without having to worry about getting too hot.

Combat Boots

Any type of boot is a must have for the fall time. One of the more popular styles is the combat boot! When it comes to these boots, they give off so many fall vibes. These in particular have a flap that can be folded down to show off a sherpa and sweater-textured section that will make everyone around you jealous. Your feet will still stay nice and warm while you roam your campus in style!

Turtleneck Sweater

I know I keep saying a lot of these are my favorites, but it is so true. Did you believe me when I said this was my favorite time of the year? Turtlenecks are such a staple item to have in your closet. I’ve never been one to really like changing up my jewelry. I like finding simple pieces that I can wear everyday. For me, a turtleneck makes me feel so much more put together because I don’t have to have a bunch of other accessories to feel cute! Plus these keep you very warm and transition well into the winter!

Sherpa Jacket

This might be *the coziest* part of my essentials. Sherpas are great for the fall time! The fluffy material will make you feel like you’re wearing a blanket to class but will still keep your fall wardrobe fashion forward. You can find these practically anywhere and in a rainbow of colors too!

Overall Shorts

If the fall season where you live is anywhere close to the “fall” that the Midwest is experiencing, you might need to find a way to wear your favorite looks like overalls. Overalls are one of the top trends every time the fall season rolls around, but you don’t have to worry about getting hot while striving for that look. Just find a set of overall shorts to keep your fall vibes coming! Plus this is an easy way to look put together for your classes.

Herringbone Vest

A vest is the quickest way to look put together for your classes! Vests are great parings to normal or basic outfits and are a great way to stay warm when the temperature starts to cool off. They’re also a great way to ensure you don’t get sick (since a vest will keep your core warm and that’s the easiest way to prevent colds). This one in particular will go with many different outfits for multiple different occasions. The possibilities are endless!

Cabin Socks

These socks are my absolute favorite for this time of the year. Not only do they have a super cute sweater design on the outside (in many different colors might I add), they’re lined socks! I know what you’re probably thinking, and it sounds something a little like “Lined? Is that comfortable?” And I’m here to tell you that they are the perfect socks for when the temperature drops! You’ll be so toasty and will feel like you’ve been in your favorite slippers all day!

Wax Warmer

For all of you living in on-campus housing, this is an essential. Since you’re not allowed to have candles  (which are optimal for a cozy, fall-time feel in your living area) using a wax warmer is a great alternative! There are many out there that feature different quotes, designs, patterns and colors, but the “Home Sweet Home” on the side of this warmer will make you feel right at home. Pop some of your favorite scents into the top and you’ll create a great area for lounging or studying!

Sherpa Blanket

Last but certainly not least, you’ll definitely want a blanket for chill Netflix-binge sessions with your roommates. This fleece blanket has a fluffy sherpa side and will help keep you really warm while you go from episode to episode. You’ll get so comfortable that you won’t even want to move!
